July 2010 Restoration Update

During July, the following work was done at the light house by members of TLC and light house personnel:

  • The mansard roof and shingles have been painted
  • Interior trim work was added
  • Plumbing was installed in the bathroom
  • Additional ceiling lights have been installed
  • Some bedroom furniture was brought out and placed in the bedrooms

Members of the Bruderhof have been out and helped wash down the upstairs wall from previous construction projects.

In memory of Carol Fletcher

On August 11, 2010, the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse lost a dear friend in Carol Fletcher.  She will be missed by everyone at the lighthouse.

Here is the posted obituary:

At rest August 11, 2010, Carol J. Fletcher of Kingston. She was married to Stanley H. Fletcher. In addition to her husband she is survived by her son Dave and his wife Sharon Fletcher; grandson, Ty R. Fletcher; brothers, Donald and his wife Lorie Burnett, Fredrick and his wife Elaine Burnett, and Robert and his wife Peg Burnett.

Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc.   Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Esopus Lighthouse Foundation. P.O. Box 1290 Port Ewen, NY 12466

10th Annual Save Esopus Lighthouse Regatta - August 21, 2010

This year, the Save Esopus Lighthouse Regatta is once again being hosted by the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club and Norrie Point Sailing Club.  This year the race will again be one way with the start at the RR bridge at 10:30AM and finish at PYC.

Help to preserve the last wooden lighthouse on the Hudson River by sailing in the Regatta.  Proceeds to benefit the restoration and preservation of the lighthouse.  (All proceeds from entry fees donated to the Save the Esopus Lighthouse Commission)

Following the Regatta an awards ceremony with food, refreshments and cash bar will take place at Poughkeepsie Yacht club.
